Membership - the advantages of belonging
The New Zealand Veterinary Association (NZVA) is the only membership association representing New Zealand veterinarians. We’re proud to have served and supported our members since 1923, and excited to now be helping the profession be better recognised and valued for the unique role they play in society.
We have big goals:
Being an NZVA member connects you with a group of over 2000 colleagues with a passion for their chosen career and provides you with personal and professional support - because every member matters to us.
What we offer you:
We are your voice where it counts.
We work with Government, industry, and the wider veterinary community to inform public debate, opinion, legislation and policy when it comes to issues that affect the quality of animal life, human life and our environment. Our policies, guidelines and position statements are developed with members to enable us to respond quickly, and with authority, to current events in the media and to support our lobbying and advocacy work. In addition, we are increasingly moving to proactively present your stories to the wider public. This lifts your value in their eyes and is good for everyone.
In line with where the profession sees itself in the future, we continually reset our education and development programmes to allow all members to contribute fully to fulfilling the 2030 Strategy.
VetLearn online courses, workshops and seminars, and our conferences and roadshows encourage high standards and will enable you to develop professionally while earning valuable CPD points.
SciQuest is a fully indexed and searchable e-library of quality New Zealand and Australian veterinary and animal science, and veterinary continuing education publications.
MyCPD is a personal online space where you can record and report all your CPD activity – keeping it in one convenient place.
Support and collegiality
You will become part of a growing network of professionals.
Members can access support, information, resources and guidance to ensure that you are able to develop both professionally and personally throughout your career.
Connect with colleagues in your region and speciality.
Members are automatically added to their regional branch and can choose to subscribe to a special interest branch (a subscription fee applies for special interest branches).
We partner members with experienced practitioners offering guidance and support at any stage of career.
To ensure the wellbeing of all our veterinary practitioners, we, together with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand (VCNZ), offer a wellness programme to provide a confidential counselling service and a 24 hour phone service that’s open seven days a week. NZVA members get three free sessions per year.
Find guidance, valuable resources and support on a range of topics and specialities in our member only Resource Centre.
We offer acknowledgement and support through awards, grants and scholarships.
